Just imagine… A weekend away… Without kids, in a different state, with hubby and friends! Then add good food, good music, nice hotel, and alcoholic beverages… Sounds like a good time.
Well, thats the weekend that we had in Philly. Friday night, we took the kiddies to their grandparents. We packed up our bags and went on a ride to Philly to enjoy the 10th annual Roots Picnic, party, and eat all weekend. And that’s exactly what we did. When we got in on Friday night, we changed our clothes and went to a BYOB party in a warehouse type location that was going on until 4 in the morning. We had such a good time laughing and dancing to old-school hip-hop, new age “trap” music, and everything in between.
The next day the six of us, 4 gals and 2 guys, made our way to the Roots picnic. This is an outdoor music festival with acts from Jeezy, Mobb Deep, Fat Joe, Pharrell, and Solange. This was my first time at an all-day music festival and I was surprised at how tiring and draining they can be. Just imagine walking and standing all day, in the sun, going from stage to stage to watch performers. I had an amazing time but by the time it was over, I was exhausted. This weekend showed me that I am no longer a spring chicken. From watching the youngsters enjoy 21 Savage and A Boogie to me going to bed at 11PM that night, I can see that I can no longer hang like I did in my younger days. Although exhausting, it was fun to hang out with the group and sing, dance, laugh and eat all day. My favorite acts from the show were definitely Jeezy, Mobb Deep, and Solange. Solange is an amazing performer. I had never seen her live before and she did not disappoint.
We ended our weekend at Green Eggs Cafe for brunch on Sunday afternoon. A friend recommended this place and it definitely did not disappoint. It was also a BYOB establishment so we bought in our champagne and enjoyed mimosas with a spread that ranged from red velvet pancakes to chicken and waffles benedict. Overall, I had an amazing weekend and I’m already looking forward to a girls weekend in July!
